Keeping God’s Word Close (Even on Busy Days)

Keeping God’s Word Close (Even on Busy Days)

Hey, friend!

Have you ever believed with all your heart that the Bible has every answer you need—and yet, when life gets hard, your mind suddenly draws a blank? You know truth is in there somewhere, but the verse just won’t come to mind.

You’re not alone. Life moves quickly. Distractions are constant. And our thoughts can so easily drift from what’s true to what’s troubling. And if we don’t stop them, they can spiral into what’s terrifying, sending us into panic attacks and anxiety.

That’s one reason I love surrounding myself with Scripture—on my desk, on the fridge, even beside the kitchen sink. Bible verse cards are one of my favorite ways to do it. They make it simple to keep God’s Word close, even on the busiest days.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. | Philippians 4:8

That’s exactly what Ephesians 4:20–32 helps us do—put the Word into action. Let’s look at five qualities that help us walk with Christ daily.

Put off the old, put on the new (Ephesians 4:22–24)

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Ephesians 4:22–24

Walking with Christ begins in the mind. In Ephesians 4:22–24, the word conversation doesn’t just mean our speech—it reflects our conduct, our way of life. Our outward behavior always begins with inward thoughts. When our minds are renewed by Scripture, our actions naturally follow. Every day, we have the choice to “put off” the old ways of thinking and “put on” the new life Christ gives—a transformation that starts in the heart and shows in how we live.

Be angry, and sin not (Ephesians 4:26)

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.
Ephesians 4:26

Anger happens; but what we think about afterward determines whether it leads to sin. When irritation arises, turning to Scripture helps us respond with grace instead of bitterness.

Don’t give place to the devil (Ephesians 4:27)

Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:27

The enemy often begins with small footholds: an unchecked thought, a hidden resentment. Keeping our minds filled with truth leaves no room for lies to take root.

Speak words that build up (Ephesians 4:29)

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Ephesians 4:29

Our words reflect our thoughts. When we meditate on truth, we naturally speak encouragement and grace. God’s Word transforms both our hearts and our tongues.

Be kind and forgiving (Ephesians 4:32)

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:32

Forgiveness is hard work, and it starts in the mind—by remembering what Christ has done for us. When His forgiveness fills our thoughts, it flows through our actions.

A Personal Reflection

When my son was about four, his teacher called one afternoon. He’d pushed another child—something rare for him—and later that week, he (for reasons only a four-year-old knows!) licked the same child.

We had a little talk that day about kindness and the appropriate way to treat our friends, and together we memorized Ephesians 4:32. It wasn’t just “because Mommy said so,” but because God said so.

That simple verse became a powerful reminder in our home—one we still come back to often. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Keep the Word Close

Friend, when our minds feel scattered, Scripture steadies us. Keeping God’s Word close helps us think on truth—and live it out.

That’s why I love our Grounded in Truth Bible Verse Cards. Each set is designed to help you surround yourself with Scripture—on your desk, in your kitchen, wherever you need reminders of God’s promises most.

As you walk with Christ this week, choose a few verses to meditate on daily. Place them where your eyes and heart will return often.

Because when we think on truth, we live in truth. And when we live in truth, Christ shines through us.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6

Much love in Christ,
Kelly
