Marriage: A Good Thing and a Sign of God's Favor
Hey, friend! Have you ever stopped to consider just how much of a gift marriage really is? The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 18:22:
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD. | Proverbs 18:22
What a powerful truth tucked into one verse! Let's reflect on what it means to see marriage as both a good thing and a sign of God's favor.

A Good Thing
Marriage isn't a human invention, it's God's design. When Scripture calls a wife a "good thing," it reminds us that marriage itself is a blessing. From the very beginning, God looked at Adam and said,
It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. | Genesis 2:18
Marriage isn't meant to be a burden or a battle, but a blessing that reflects God's goodness in creation.
The Lord's Favor in Marriage
Not only is marriage a good thing, but it also shows us something deeper: favor from the Lord. A godly wife is more than a life partner; she's evidence of God's gracious hand at work. And a husband who loves his wife well reflects Christ's love for His church.
Marriage is a testimony that God is kind to His children, giving us companionship, love, and partnership in this life.
Marriage as a Picture of God's Goodness
When we look at marriage, we see more than romance or partnership. We see a reflection of God's covenant love. The apostle Paul explained this mystery:
For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Ephesians 5:31-32
Marriage points us beyond itself. It's a picture of Christ's faithful love, His sacrifice, and His unending commitment to His bride, the church. What an incredible gift!
Living in the Favor of God
So what does it look like to live in the truth of Proverbs 18:22?
Husbands, cherish your wife as God's gift to you. The Lord commands us to love our wives as Christ loved the church, giving Himself for her.
Wives, see your role as a blessing and a reflection of God's favor. A virtuous woman is worth far more than rubies, and her husband safely trusts in her.
Couples, cultivate gratitude and prayer together daily. Pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
One simple way to keep God's Word at the center of your relationship is by filling your home with Scripture reminders. That's why I love our Bible Verse Cards for Marriage, designed to point couples back to God's truth in every season.

Stay Grounded in Him
Friend, marriage truly is a "good thing." It's God's idea, His gift, and His favor poured out on those who walk in His ways. If you're married, take time today to thank the Lord for your spouse. If you're waiting, trust that God's timing and favor are always perfect.
Wow! What an amazing God we serve: a God who gives good things and delights to show His favor. May your marriage be a daily reminder of His goodness and His faithfulness.
Much love in Christ,
Kelly
