14 Bible Verses About Love and Trust (To Encourage Your Heart Today)

Love and trust go hand in hand in Scripture. God’s love for us is the foundation of our trust in Him—and our love for others flows from trusting His character and promises.

As we head into February (a month when the world talks a lot about love), I wanted to share fourteen Bible verses about love and trust that I return to often—especially when I’m struggling to believe God’s love or learning to love others well.

I pray these verses will steady your heart and remind you how trustworthy He is.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

One of the most well-known verses in the Bible—and for good reason. God’s love isn’t just said, it’s shown. He gave everything.

When you’re doubting His love, come back here. If He didn’t hold back His Son, He won’t hold back anything good.

First Corinthians 13:4–8

Charity suffereth long, and is kind … Charity never faileth.

We hear this at weddings, but it’s not just romantic. This is the shape of real, biblical love: patient, kind, humble, forgiving.

Here’s what gets me—this is how God loves us. He keeps no record of wrongs. His love never fails. That’s the kind of love we can trust.

Proverbs 3:5–6

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Trust Him with all of it...not just the parts that make sense, not just when the path looks clear.

All your heart. All your ways. That’s full-surrender trust—and the promise? He will direct your path.

First Peter 4:8

Above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Love covers. Not in a way that ignores sin—but one that extends grace. This is the kind of love we need in our families, churches, and friendships. The kind that forgives quickly.

Psalm 13:5

But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

David wrote this in a really hard season. Earlier in the psalm, he’s asking, “How long, Lord?” But he lands here.

Trust leads to rejoicing because God is merciful. And that’s enough.

Proverbs 28:26

He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh in wisdom shall be delivered.

We say “follow your heart,” but Scripture says: don’t. Our hearts deceive us. God’s wisdom leads to safety. Trust Him, not your gut.

Romans 5:8

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

God didn’t wait until we cleaned ourselves up. He loved us while we were still sinning. That’s unconditional, initiating, pursuing love.

Psalm 56:3

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

David doesn’t say, “I’ll never be afraid.” He acknowledges fear, then chooses trust.

Short. Honest. Steadying.

First John 4:18

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear.

Fear torments. God’s love drives it out.

When you feel anxious or overwhelmed, let this verse remind you: His love is perfect. It brings peace, not panic.

Jeremiah 31:3

Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

His love isn’t temporary or dependent on performance. It’s everlasting. And His kindness is what pulls you close—not pressure.

Psalm 62:8

Trust in him at all times … God is a refuge for us. Selah.

All times. Not just the easy ones. Not just when you feel close to God.

Pour out your heart before Him—He can handle your honesty. That’s trust.

First John 4:19

We love him, because he first loved us.

Our love isn’t self-generated. It’s a response. He loved first. And His love makes our trust possible.

Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

Not just powerful—good. And He knows you. He sees your trust, even when it’s small or shaky. He’s your stronghold.

First John 3:1

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us.

We’re not just saved—we’re adopted. Children of God. Not servants. Not strangers. Family.

That’s the kind of love you can rest in.

Keep These Verses About Love and Trust Close

Love and trust aren’t just nice ideas—they’re how we walk with God. His love for you is what makes trust possible. And trusting Him is what frees you to love others well.

I hope these Bible verses about love and trust encourage your heart this week. Write them out. Stick them on your mirror. Memorize one. Let them remind you that you’re deeply loved—and He’s completely trustworthy.

Much love in Christ,
Kelly
