Surround Yourself with Scripture: The Power of Bible Verse Index Cards

Hey, friend!

When I was in college, shortly after I came to know the Lord, our Bible study leader shared a simple idea that changed my walk with the Lord. She encouraged us to create little spiral notebooks filled with handwritten verses—just index cards on a ring. Nothing fancy. But oh, what a treasure it became to me as I was just starting to learn about the Bible.

Each card held a bit of truth I needed that day. Verses that steadied me, comforted me, and reminded me who God is. That small, humble notebook became one of my most cherished tools for keeping Scripture close to my heart and beginning to memorize it.

Years later, I picked up a book called What Do I Know About My God? by Mardi Collier, and it breathed fresh life into that same idea—knowing God through His Word, one verse at a time, and recording it in such a way as to be easy to find when I need it. Looking back, that simple discipline of writing Scripture became the foundation for Grounded in Truth Company.

I’ve seen firsthand what a single verse card can do. I’ve watched a woman’s eyes fill with tears as she read words she needs right in a specific moment. God’s Word changes everything.

Why Writing Out Scripture Matters

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. | Psalm 119:11

Meditating on Scripture calms our spirits. Writing Scripture slows us down. It quiets the noise and draws our focus to every word. When we trace each letter with our own hand, truth settles in a little deeper. It’s not just ink on cardstock; it’s the Word of God, shaping our thoughts and renewing our minds.

There’s something about the rhythm of writing that helps us remember. We engage our hearts, our hands, and our eyes. Every verse becomes a seed planted, ready to bloom as the Holy Spirit brings it back to mind in the moments we need it most.

Friend, if you’ve ever wanted to memorize more Scripture or simply meditate on it longer, this might be just the practice for you.

Simple Ways to Create Your Own Bible Verse Index Cards

You don’t need to make it complicated. Gather a few simple supplies:

  • A stack of index cards (or a spiral notebook!)
  • A binder ring or a small box
  • Your favorite pen
  • A heart ready to receive truth

Start by choosing a few themes; some of our favorites are peace, gratitude, strength, or wisdom. Or maybe begin with the verses the Lord has been highlighting in your daily reading.

Don’t worry about making them “pretty.” It doesn’t need to be perfect; it just needs to point you back to Him. His Word, right there in front of you, is what matters most.

Keep your cards somewhere easy to reach: on your desk, tucked in your Bible, beside your coffee cup in the morning. Flip through them in carpool lines or before you drift off to sleep. These small, faithful rhythms have a way of changing us for the better as we soak in God’s Word.

Surrounding Yourself with Scripture Daily

One of my favorite parts about Bible verse index cards is how practical they are. You can tape one to your bathroom mirror, slip one into a gift bag, or give one to a friend who needs a reminder of God’s promises.

When Scripture surrounds you, it transforms you. It softens anxious thoughts, corrects weary hearts, and anchors your day in what’s true.

That’s what I love most—Scripture doesn’t just stay on the page. It moves into the spaces we live.

For When You Don’t Want to DIY Bible Verse Cards

Now, maybe you’re thinking, “Kelly, I love that idea, but I’m not the crafty type.” Friend, I get it. That’s exactly why Grounded in Truth exists.

If you’d rather skip the fancy pens and cardstock, we’ve created verse card sets that do the work for you—modern, beautiful, and filled with King James Scripture. They’re designed to help you surround your home and heart with truth.

Each set is printed with care, ready to gift, display, or tuck into your Bible bag. You can explore them here: https://groundedintruthco.com/collections

However you do it, whether you handwrite each verse or use a ready-made set, the goal is the same: let God’s Word dwell richly in you.

Write it. Display it. Dwell in it. His Word never returns void.

Much love in Christ,
Kelly
