Leaning on God’s Wisdom: Finding Safety in Counsel
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. | Proverbs 11:14
Proverbs 11:14 speaks directly to our hearts, reminding us that life is not meant to be faced alone. When we trust our own limited perspective, we can easily lose direction or feel overwhelmed by decisions. But God, in His wisdom, has provided a beautiful solution: we’re invited to seek wise counsel and lean on the strength of others.

Seeking God’s Guidance Together
In times of uncertainty, it’s natural to feel vulnerable. We may even try to rely on our own strength or understanding to keep ourselves secure. Yet God’s Word offers a different approach. Proverbs 15:22 states,
Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
This verse encourages us to look to those who share our faith, who can point us back to God when our own view seems cloudy.
Have you ever faced a decision that felt too big to make alone? God invites us to include others in those moments. Seeking counsel isn’t just about gaining advice; it’s an act of humility, admitting that we need God’s wisdom, often delivered through people who reflect His truth.
Recognizing God’s Provision in Godly Advice
When we look for guidance, it’s easy to focus on our own immediate goals. But godly counsel helps us see the bigger picture and reminds us of God’s sovereignty. Proverbs 20:18 tells us,
Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
Whether in big or small choices, leaning on God’s wisdom through trusted friends, mentors, or church leaders is an act of faith that acknowledges God as our true source of stability.
God often places people in our lives who can offer the guidance we need. It may be a friend who’s walked a similar path or a pastor who can speak biblical truth into our situation. Taking a step to seek this advice means allowing God to work through the wisdom of others, and in doing so, we experience the protection and comfort of His presence.

A Prayer for Wisdom and Community
As you navigate the decisions before you, may you remember that God does not ask you to go it alone. He has provided wise, godly people who are ready to walk beside you, listen, and pray with you. Pray for the courage to seek godly counsel, for humility to accept advice, and for wisdom to follow God’s direction.
Lord, thank You for surrounding us with godly people who reflect Your wisdom. Help us to seek and embrace wise counsel in every area of our lives. May we trust in Your guidance through Your word and our local church community, leaning on You and Your people for safety. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
In seeking counsel, we discover not only safety but the joy of shared faith. Embracing godly wisdom is an invitation to journey together, guided by God’s hand.
