5 Bible Verses to Calm an Anxious Heart
Hey, friend. If you’ve ever felt anxiety start to spiral into a full panic attack, you know how overwhelming it can be. In those moments, even the thought of opening a full Bible and searching for the right passage can feel impossible. That’s why I love keeping verse cards nearby. Having God’s promises right in front of me in an easy-to-read format helps me shift my mind from the problem to His truth.
Here are 5 Bible verses that bring peace in the middle of anxious moments. (You’ll find these in our Bible Verse Cards for Anxiety set—along with others chosen to help you break the spiral and rest in the Lord’s promises.)
1. Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
When anxiety grips tight, it can feel like we’re alone. But God gently reminds us that He is with us, holding us, and giving us strength. His presence is steady when our hearts are not.
2. Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Anxiety tells us to worry. God tells us to pray. When we bring our requests to Him with thanksgiving, He doesn’t just take away the burden—He replaces it with His peace, a peace so deep it surpasses all human understanding.
3. 2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Fear doesn’t come from God. Anxiety whispers chaos, but God gives us power, love, and clear thinking. This truth reminds us that He equips us to stand strong, even when worry wants to steal our peace.
4. Matthew 6:33-34
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Anxiety thrives on “what if.” Jesus tells us to live one day at a time, keeping our eyes on the kingdom of God. We don’t need to carry tomorrow’s weight—God already has tomorrow in His hands.
5. Lamentations 3:21-24
This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
When anxiety says it will never end, God says His mercies are new every morning. His compassion does not fail. Every sunrise is a fresh reminder that His faithfulness is greater than our fear.
Friend, these are just five of the verses included in the Bible Verse Cards for Anxiety. Having them close by has been such a comfort for me when my thoughts start racing. Instead of scrambling for the right passage in the middle of a panic attack, I can pull out a card, breathe, and meditate on God’s Word.
